We Had to Get Help: One Parent’s Perspective

Have you ever wondered how as parents you can go from being super mom or dad to the worst parent in the world? Is your child’s destructive behavior really all your fault?

If you have ever asked yourself questions along those lines you are not alone!

My wife and I thought we were great parents until child number three came along. Things were manageable until the teen years when they went into meltdown mode and we had to get help. We sought professional counseling, pastoral counseling, sent her to summer camp, read many books, and spent a whole lot of time in prayer.

Through perseverance and never giving up on our daughter, she has on several occasions told her mom and me how much she loves us and appreciates all of our support over the years. It feels great to have a functional adult friendship with all of our grown children now.

It could never have happened were it not for support from the many people who listened and prayed alongside us.

I am excited to be part of Seeds Wilderness Therapy because Dean’s vision is to come alongside families like mine, who are struggling through the turbulent teen years, and provide hope. I only wish Seeds had been around ten years ago!
