I was so scared, standing nose to nose with my 17-year-old son screaming in my face. We were on the side of the road walking back from our favorite restaurant, my son, my daughter, and myself. After years of abuse and neglect from his stepfather my son was triggered by an innocent comment my daughter made and the situation quickly spiraled into a dangerous screaming match on the side of the road. I was scared for my safety but I was terrified for the future of my son.
I started looking for someone who could help him because regular counseling had done nothing. Soon after there was a fight between my youngest son and my older son; I had to step in because I was afraid of physical violence against my youngest child. That was the last straw.
That is when I found Seeds. Taking my son to Seeds Wilderness Therapy was the best decision I ever made and also one of the most difficult. One of the hardest things to do as a parent is to leave your child in the care of someone else and drive away hoping and praying for the best.
At the end of his time at Seeds a true transformation had taken place. A peace had settled upon my son that had not resided in him since he was a young child. One of the most amazing results has been the relationship between him and his younger brother. My two sons have become best of friends which is something I never thought could happen.
A year later my son was able to return to Seeds for a week as a mentor for those going through the program themselves. My son found it therapeutic and very edifying to help others in situations similar to the one he had been in just a year ago. It was also a blessing that the staff was able to invest in my son a year later, helping him along with his progress and some of the struggles that he had come up against in the year since he had graduated the program.
The “seeds” that Seeds Wilderness planted in my son are continuing to sprout and produce fruit. My son is now in the Marine Corps, where he regularly leads his platoon in prayer and Bible study. He has a testimony to share of God‘s freedom and love, and how God can transform a life from anger and hurt to purpose and meaning.
Without the financial assistance I received, a single mom like me would never have been able to get my son the help that he needed to attend Seeds Wilderness Therapy. Due to the generous giving of others my son’s life was transformed by Christ and he can now go forth and be a witness to others. I will forever be grateful to those who made this transformation possible for my son and family. Would you please consider generously giving to assist a family in need? You are not just giving financially. You are investing in the kingdom of God and in the future of men and women of His kingdom.
